Today's List
Things my father in law wished I had:
An axe
Barring that, a hatchet
A Depression Era sense of thrift
A bow saw (editor’s note: Acquired!)
Pruning shears (editor’s note: Have them, just didn’t tell him)
Some practical knowledge
An old can
Barring that, and old ice cream bucket
Physical stamina
A sanding block
A pick
A job (implied)

People submitted 15 second clips of themselves recreating a scene from Star Wars (if you ask “Which one?” you are not a fan. It is Star Wars) and then they were edited into a whole. Genius.

A public service announcement
Ladies, if you are going to take sexy pics of yourself in the mirror, would it kill you to clean the mirror first? Ask yourself, Do we want to look through a haze of toothpaste splashes? No, we don’t.

Terrorists can be white!
This country really needs a fundamental shift in what a “terrorist” is. The post-9/11 paranoia of Muslims/brown people has created a false idea of what is “terrorism.” And law enforcement/media are not helping, as the opening paragraphs of the Washington Post story demonstrate:
The California man who calmly opened fire on two police officers at an entrance to the...

A Historie of Groundhogge's Day
Groundhog’s Day today has become a charming February staple of school children and morning network shows. Both constituencies would be shocked to learn the tradition’s more lurid origins.
The practice has it’s roots in a peculiar judicial pact between the Pennsylvania Dutch and the “English” of Western Pennsylvania. With connotations of The Passion, every winter the...

Me, other places
Have you ever wondered about my thoughts on the future of television, or the future of human genetic manipulation? Sure you have! And so have others, which is why I’ve been interviewed recently on both topics.
For my thoughts on the future of television as a family activity, make with the clicky here: Not Suitable for Family Viewing

– Well, this will be a boon to Japan’s space program. Also, Sarkozy has to be happy. Now at G8 meetings, the press will try to get Hatoyama’s wife to say something fun, rather than trying to snap topless pics of Carla Bruni.

– The Washington Post, since the arrival of Dan Snyder, has had a bi-polar relationship with the Redskins. The paper loves the team and hates the management. For the past two days the paper has bravely eviscerated the management for their treatment of fans with regard to tickets. Yesterday was front...

Apologies
So the irony of the furlough is that I am not required to be in front of a computer for 8-10 hours a day. You would think that all the free time I now have would make me more prolific here, but in fact, not being required to be in front of the computer means I can do other things, like go outside, or read, or clean the house. But I promise that will try to remedy the lack of postings.
